Reflections on Independence Day

As we prepare to spend a day with family, friends, and fireworks, join us in taking a minute to reflect on what this day is all about.

On July 4, 1776, with the Declaration of Independence signed two days earlier, the thirteen colonies claimed their independence from England, an event which was unheard of up to that point in history.

This independence would be short-lived if the Continental Army was unable to secure our freedom on the battlefield.

It took a combination of the military genius of George Washington, the brave soldiers of the inexperienced Continental Army and State militias, and some would say divine providence, to secure our independence by defeating the greatest military power of the age.

While it may have been the first, it would certainly not be the last time that our military was called upon to preserve our freedom and liberty.

As we enjoy the 4th of July please take a moment to say thank you to our men and women in uniform, past and present.  It is because of the sacrifice of these brave Americans, and those that came before, that we get to celebrate this day.

Best wishes for a happy and safe Independence Day!
